Uncertain Baby Boomers

I've been exploring generational differences in the workplace for the past couple of months. I've focused mostly on Generation X and the Baby Boomers.

I've noticed recently that many Baby Boomers who "should" be about to retire are at very uncertain points in their careers. In fact, two of my Baby Boomer housemates at the Community of Writers in the Sierras told me stories in which they had very uncertain job futures, and these are women with very high level positions.

Unemployed 17 Months And Counting is the story of John McCarthy, a "scientific renaissance man," who was laid off and can't find another job. He's a Baby Boomer. This sounds fairly typical.
